New Delhi: Three people have been arrested for throwing acid on a 17-year-old girl in Dwarka on Wednesday, ANI quoted DCP M Harshvardhan as saying. The incident, which triggered severe outrage, led the ruling AAP and women groups to raise questions on the availability of acid in Delhi markets despite a ban.
The incident was caught on CCTV footage. It showed two people on a bike throwing acid at the girl on the sidewalk.
The two accused who threw the acid have been identified as Sachin Arora, the victim’s neighbour and friend, and Harshit Agarwal. Their accomplice, Virendra Singh alias Sonu, has also been arrested, Delhi Police said.
The National Commission For Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the attack, while the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued notice to the police.
According to Police, “The girl is under medical treatment with 8% burn injuries at Safdarjung Hospital.” Delhi Police Special CP, Law & Order, Preet Hooda said, “As per the probe, the main reason behind the crime was Sachin Arora’s friendship with the girl. The two stopped talking 2-3 months ago as the girl was not interested.”
