Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu makes comeback as PM Yair Lapid concedes defeat

New Delhi (international Desk): On Thursday, with nearly all the votes counted, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid conceded defeat to his predecessor, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu, 73, has been in office for a total of 15 years in two separate stints. But the government he appears likely to form would be the most right-wing in Israeli history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Benjamin Netanyahu for his comeback as the Prime Minister of Israel. PM Modi tweets, “I look forward to continuing our joint efforts to deepen the India-Israel strategic partnership.”

In his reply to PM Modi’s tweet, Benjamin Netanyahu said, “Thank you my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I look forward to continued fruitful cooperation between Israel and India.”
