Mumbai: After the controversial statement on Chhatrapati Shivaji, the opposition’s attacks on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari in Maharashtra are increasing continuously. This Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) MP Sanjay Raut has also opened a front against Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
We’re not ready to consider him as Gov. He’s a humble BJP worker. Gov is neutral&shows dignity in his words & conduct. But our Gov speaks on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Phule or Savitribai Phule, has he made a mockery out of Maharashtra?
Raut said, “There was never such anger against any Governor in any state. People are agitating. The dignity of the post of Governor has ended in Maharashtra because BJP has made the Raj Bhavan its party HQ.”
Meanwhile, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has distanced himself from the statement given by Governor Koshyari regarding Chhatrapati Shivaji and clarified. Nitin Gadkari said on Sunday that Shivaji is our God. We respect them more than even our parents.
Koshyari had, on Saturday, said Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was an icon of “olden days” and referred to Babasaheb Ambedkar and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari while talking about “icons” in the state, drawing criticism from the NCP and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction.
“Earlier, when you were asked who your icon is, the answers would be Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose and Mahatma Gandhi. In Maharashtra, you need not look elsewhere (as) there are so many icons here. While Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is icon of the olden days, now there are BR Ambedkar and Nitin Gadkari,” the Maharashtra Governor had said.
